Platforming Peasantry

Peasant Knight will push your reaction time and problem solving skills to their limit, as you do everything you can to beat the 80 levels this game brings with it, but you only have two actions to work with! You will always be moving forward, with a button to stop moving, and a button to jump. It sounds simple but Peasant Knight really manages to find a TON of things to do with such limited options. Peasant Knight was brought to us by Ratalaika games, for whom we have reviewed a few games and enjoyed them all very much, so let's get into what is going to set Peasant Knight apart from the rest!

Lasers, Elevators, and Saws, Oh My!

Lasers that fly high into the air, elevators that go higher than you think they would, crushing you against a platform, little floor saws ready to cut you up, countless pits and other ways to fall off a stage into the empty nothingness of a stage and many, many, more obstacles will be what you are dealing with in this game as you try to clear it. This game always does a very good job of introducing an obstacle organically and gradually, doing more with it to ease you into adding it into how you deal with each new obstacle in your head, and then turning that upside down in ways you couldn't imagine! Personally, I was super into the way they started to use portals in the game! Some seriously creative stuff here, wrapped up in a nice, inexpensive, little bundle!

Beeps n’ Boops

This game’s visuals are cute, but nothing super impressive or anything. I still very much enjoyed looking at it though, as there was never any obvious visual mess, and nothing to take away from the gameplay as is what happens with some game’s visuals. The music takes a backseat to the gameplay with its arrays of beeps and boops playing along with the sound effects the game has, which is a similar style to the kind of stuff you would expect to see from a retro styled indie platformer. The focus was clearly on making fun levels, and figuring out how to use all the obstacles they came up with in tandem in different and creative ways.

This isn’t going to take a ton of your time up if you can handle some quick reacting platforming and minor puzzle solving, with 80 levels to go through, and they are not long levels. Thankfully having some co-op modes will add some longevity to the experience as well as level races. The game features about 18 different kinds of obstacles to figure out how to bypass, and some of them will have you wondering just HOW you are going to do it! For $2.99, you can't do much better than this. Peasant Knight will keep you entertained when you only have a couple minutes to game rather than a full session.

Score: 7/10
