An Intern Simulator, One of a Kind

Ok, this one is going to be interesting! Let’s frame it up for you a little bit, ok? You know it… lots of us have done it: corporate interning. You make copies, you do coffee runs, you do everything no one wants to do around the office. It sucks, but what can you do? Who would want to play a game like that? What if I told you that, as an intern, you were an inter-dimensional horror, writhing with tentacles? Yeah, you read that right. We are talking Eldritch Horror, the objects of madness, HP Lovecraft style. Did I mention that every level you tackle in this game is different? You will be asking yourself, is this madness, or just another Wednesday at the office? Let’s delve into Godly Corp and talk a little more about this highly unique experience.

Ph'nglui Mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh Wgah'nagl Fhtagn

If you can understand the title of this section, I commend you. If not, just don’t worry about it. You don’t want to go down that rabbit hole! Now then, this internship is not just at a normal office. Of course not. It just couldn’t be, could it? No, our good old object of madness is an intern at an intergalactic office that literally manages the universe. This place does it all, from managing global temperatures on earth—using what looks like a desk lamp—to destroying evil bugs that threaten to infect a planet. Oh, and Casual Wednesdays, we love those. Those are just nice, chill casual days with nothing out of the ordinary happening at all.

In this game, it's up to you and your trusty tentacle to ensure you don't accidentally let the universe implode in on itself, ending all the life within it! To do this, each day you will be tasked with a different job. There’s the aforementioned managing global temperatures that will have you rotating a globe to ensure each major area is getting the correct amount of sun to keep everything savvy there, but while that is happening, bugs will fall from the sky—or even from a box that falls on your desk—and it is up to you to slap them off the table and away from the globe, because if they get to it, oh man, somehow it gets the world taken over by bugs—and we don’t want that, do we? Absolutely not!

Task After Task… Coffee Break When?

Now, the next level is where it becomes a little more involved. The first level lets you kind of figure out how to use your tentacle. You can move it inwards, outwards, vertically, and horizontally. You can hold a button to move quicker, and you can also pick up certain things—I’ll tell you though, when I realized the hold button was a click and not a hold, I was grateful!

In the first level, it's pretty low stakes, but in the second level, you will have to destroy alien nests appearing on a planet, and to do that, you have a little laser gun. You have to rotate the globe in order hit them with the laser, but the thing is, the laser gun can run out of juice, and the method to recharge it is… particular. You have to grab the battery and just shake it around in a specific motion in order to get it charged up. It's an interesting mechanic that is, again, teaching you how to control your character by having you do it, rather than just explaining it, and I LOVE when games do that. After this, Its Casual Wednesday, which I won’t even talk about, but I can just say we all look forward to Casual Wednesday, and there are reasons for that!

The next level introduces the fact that you can wrap your writhing, suction-cup-covered appendage around things, letting you squeeze them! You have to exterminate some cosmic bugs, and you have to squeeze a spray can to do that, then unwrap yourself and pump it back up! Multi-tasking seems to be the name of the game here, and it is super fun!

Wrapping Up

Godly Corp shines in its gameplay, but its visuals are simple, and its music unremarkable. They certainly achieved what I believe they set out to do: to give you a fun sandbox with a fun framing and the mechanic of a player-controlled tentacle, and I love how that turned out! You won’t be toe-tapping any tunes, or staring mouth agape at some beautiful visuals, but I can promise you that you will have a good time, you will laugh, and you will wonder what mad minds came up with this! Godly Corp fills a fun little niche that is more than worth the $7.99 that it asks (at the time of writing) and will continue to be a game I occasionally pull out for friends! I give Godly Corp a 7/10!

Score: 7/10
