Today I will be taking a look at the PowerA Switch Protection Kit for the Nintendo Switch. There are several styles available for this product, but the one I received is the Legend of Zelda style in green. The kit includes a slim carrying case for the handheld Switch console, a cleaning cloth with a Legend of Zelda design, a screen protector, and screen protector applicator.

What Fits in the Case?

The PowerA carrying case itself will hold your Switch handheld console with attached Joy-Cons, along with space for 9 game cartridges. There is also a metal zippered mesh pocket inside that will hold some smaller accessories, like the slides for the Joy-Cons, or a power cord. This case is ideal for everyday use if you like to take your Switch with you for some handheld playing. It will not hold the Switch dock or the power brick, as it really isn’t designed to do so, but it works great as a stylish and portable way to carry and protect your Switch, and though it is a slightly larger slim case, it is still very lightweight and relatively compact.

What About Construction?

This case is a sturdy build. The case features a semi-rigid outer shell, molded to fit the shape of the back of the Joy-Cons when attached, with a soft and plush interior lining. The game storage flap sits on top of the console, serving a dual purpose by not only holding extra games, but by protecting the screen from anything in the zippered mesh storage pocket that may come in contact with the screen. There is also a Velcro tab that secures the flap in place and keeps the Switch from falling out. The materials are very high quality, as is the craftsmanship. The rubberized handle on the outside of the case is quite useful and is ergonomically well-designed for comfort.

Pros and Cons – Should You Buy This?

Aside from the first Switch case I bought, which was only purchased so I had something until I could find a case I liked better, almost all cases I have tried have been very good. The PowerA case is no exception, and the pros for this case yet again far outweigh the cons. As mentioned above, the case is well made and constructed, and does a great job of protecting the Switch. It has several features designed specifically with comfort in mind, even down to the rubber zipper grips or the soft rubber carrying handle. Another pro with this protection kit is the addition of the screen protector and cleaning cloth. Sure, they’re not really needed, but it never hurts to add a little extra to the mix, especially at the price point of $19.99! You also get a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty with this case, which is also never a bad thing.

There are not many cons with the PowerA case, but if I had to pick it apart—and really, I do—I would say that the main concern with this case is that it has a semi-rigid shell, but not really a hard shell. It is sturdy, but I would definitely be concerned for the safety of my Switch if my daughter decided to do the toddler stress test on this one. I don’t think it could stand up to a 35-pound toddler stepping on it. As a general rule, however, I try not to leave my Switch in a situation where it can easily be stepped on, so there’s that.

That's a Wrap

This case is quite nice, and I love the design on the outside. I did name my daughter Zelda, after all, so I am slightly partial to the Legend of Zelda franchise. It is sleek, well-made, and priced very fairly at $19.99. PowerA is a great company that makes great high-quality products for the Switch. I would absolutely recommend the PowerA Switch Protection Kit for the Nintendo Switch to anyone who likes to bring their Switch with them everywhere. I give this one a 9.5/10!

Final Score: 9.5/10
