Tennis, Anyone?

I’m just going to say up front that I’m not the world’s biggest fan of gimmick peripherals. I reviewed the Cabela’s hunting and fishing games a while ago, and the shotgun and fishing rod accessories that came with those games added nothing to the experience for me. Unfortunately, the EVORETRO Tennis Racket Twin Pack is more of the same for me; I just don’t get the point of them. They’re well-made, sure; the plastic used to make them is sturdy and they look presentable enough. They have wrist straps built-in to them, which is another point in their favor.

Joy-Cons slide right in and out easily, which is always good. They’re nicely balanced, so they don’t feel awkward to swing when you’re using them. So, they do everything a peripheral like this should do, but it still doesn’t answer the question of why? They don’t impact gameplay in any meaningful way and there are only like four games where using them is appropriate anyway. It’s just tough for me to justify a peripheral like this with such questionable usefulness and low number of appropriate uses.

Pocket Monster

The good news is, the Tennis Racket Twin Pack also comes with a 12-slot game card case which is infinitely more useful. The case is small enough to fit in your pocket and sturdy enough to protect your games while it’s there. It flips open like an Altoids tin, and the double-sided card that actually holds the game cards is on a hinge. It also comes with a card that can hold two micro SD cards; it fits right into one of the game card slots, but it also reduces the number of games you can carry to 11. Unless, of course, you’ve got a ton of digital games on those cards, then it greatly increases the number of games you can carry around. This case is a perfect companion to EVORETRO’s Switch carrying case if you need more game card storage than that case allows. It fits nicely in that case’s accessory storage area. So, while I have trouble seeing the usefulness of the rackets, I love the game card case.

Score: 5/10
